Stampin' Up! Pretty Kitty Sentiment Background Stamping

Hey Peaches! Today is July 5th and for those of us who live in the United States, that means we just celebrated our Independence Day. It's the day we remember and honor those brave souls who fought for our freedom. Many of them have even payed the ultimate price for that freedom. I can't even express the gratitude I feel towards those generous, brave Americans and their families.

My family likes to celebrate this day by getting together, playing games, BBQing, and lightning a few fireworks. It's always a fun time and we savor the moments we get together to enjoy each others' company. You'll probably laugh, but I even fit time in to create today's card, lol.

Today, I made a card with a fun background that's created with both a mask and just using a simple sentiment. I'm not sure if there's a name for the "sentiment background" technique, but, basically, here's what I did: I first took and die cut an oval from a piece of scrap paper, using my oval dies. Then I used the positive portion of cardstock (which is the piece of scrap paper I cut the oval from) as a mask and placed it over my main panel. I like to tape it down when I'm ink blending because it seems to like to move around if I don't, and I wanted a clean image of an oval for my background. I used one of my favorite In-Colors, Lemon Lime Twist and a sponge to ink blend some color over the open area of my mask, to create a Lemon Lime Twist oval. Next was the sentiment part.

For the sentiment, I chose a fun "hello" type greeting from the set, Pretty Kitty. I just love all those adorable kitties, especially the one tangled in yarn. I chose a somewhat darker ink, Pear Pizzazz, to stamp my sentiment repeatedly around the inked oval area. Then, after I was happy with the background, I die cut a smaller circle from the center of the original inked oval. I'll explain what I plan to do with it towards the end, but for now, I set it aside to work on my kitty and floral images.

First, for my floral images, I die cut some greenery and flowers from watercolor paper and, using my aqua painter, painted them using various inks. Then I set them aside to dry, and I moved on to stamping my kitty image. After stamping and coloring my kitty image, I fussy cut her out and arranged my her with my floral images until I liked the configuration. I took the die cut oval from before, popped it up with dimensionals, and placed it back in the area it was die cut from, just to add some additional dimension and interest. I added my kitty and floral arrangement, and that completes my card for today! Thanks so much for stopping by, and be sure to check out all of the AMAZING deals happening this month!
